Facts and Opinions From a US Citizen

I woke up Sat morning to the news Israel was under attack. I learned almost
immediately it was not an attack. It was an invasion. (This is taking longer than usual. I can’t see the keyboard thru the tears) I was safe. My children and my grandson were safe. That could not be said for those in Israel. Since Sat, I’ve been on the phone almost non-stop. People ask why. How could this happen in Israel? Why doesn’t Israel want to negotiate? Why is Israel preventing a Palestinian state? Why do Jews feel Israel belongs to them? Why now?

All will be answered but 1st lets start with what we already know. Hamas breached Israeli security and invaded civilian homes. A clear security failure. They either killed or kidnapped men, women, children, elderly. There are already pics showing vile, inhuman abuses. There is little doubt Iran is behind the invasion. But why now? A Saudi Arabia/Israel peace agreement was imminent. It would certainly contain concessions for the Palestinians. Both would reduce Iran’s influence. There is chaos in Israel. There is chaos in the US. There is also a president here who left $60 billion of weapons in Afghanistan (I’m betting they’re the weapons Hamas is using….just a guess), reduced sanctions on Iran allowing them to sell $60 billion in oil to China, and began funding Palestinians between $200-300 million/year after Trump defunded them. All this was going on while we were un-freezing $6 billion for a prisoner swap. A perfect storm.

Israel will take out Hamas and, if they launch, Hezbollah. But the attacks won’t stop until they also take out Iran, their oil fields, refineries, and nukes, hopefully as a joint effort with the US. If I were king in Israel, I would publish, with pictures, terrorist leaders and inform them to start facing Mecca. I would launch preemptively against Hezbollah. I would revoke all Palestinian visas in Israel (that’s what you get when you vote Hamas in office). I would let it be known that after Gaza and Lebanon, Iran is next. It is no longer acceptable to have terrorist groups and a state who funds them who live only to kill you as neighbors. Of course, Bibi is not returning my calls but one thing is for sure. Global criticism is inevitable. As pics of destruction in Gaza emerge you will hear calls for a cease fire, a proportionate response, Israeli cruelty, words like moral equivalence, a UN resolution calling for peace, and of course Israel is the real aggressor. It’s already begun. In a joint statement from Harvard student organizations: “The apartheid
regime is the only one to blame. Israeli violence has structured every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years…Palestinians have been forced to live in a state of death, both slow and sudden.” I repeat, HARVARD!

However, behind closed doors, everyone knows the world is better off without a nuclear Iran. They also know that Iran is a legitimate military target and Israel has every right to retaliate. If Israel puts Iran out of the oil business, on a good day it might lead to regime change.
