Facts and Opinions From a US Citizen

Accusations against Israel debunked.

Since Israel’s response to Oct 7, anti-Israel rhetoric on social media has grown geometrically. Of course, interest grew only after Israel began to win. Critics will be shouting even louder now that Hamas is done, Hezbollah is on the ropes, and Iran is on the clock. The claimants fall into 2 categories: stupid and ignorant. Stupid is forgivable because “stupid is as stupid does” (Gump). Ignorance, however, is not forgivable because it is a choice. There are 3 levels: those who form opinions with misinformation or no information; those who accept it without interest in opposing views; those unwilling to even entertain anything that interferes with their preconceived beliefs. But, I will do my best to explain even if some don’t care to listen.

The major accusations against Israel fall into 4 groups: 1- stolen land, 2- occupier nation, 3- apartheid nation, and 4- committing genocide. Of course, these are made using hateful slogans, ad hominem attacks, mudslinging, and defamation. Posting tedious, long debunked conspiracy theories. Posting phrases like “everybody knows”, “the truth is finally coming out”, “globalist proxy state.” No facts. Just vague and meaningless words and opinions that only prove my point.

Let’s deal with those 4 major accusations 1 at a time.

1- stolen land: History lesson….the region known as Palestine was never, never a country and never inhabited exclusively by Arabs….never! UN Resolution 181 partitioned Palestine part Jewish, part Arab (NOT Palestinian) on Nov 29, 1947. Israel declared its statehood on May 14, 1948. The country of Israel was formed by international agreement, not by conquest. The only war was the one started by 6 Arab countries on May 15th to crush the new state because they objected to 181.

So, I have 2 questions: When did Israel “steal” the land and who did they steal it from?? The correct answer is that the land was never stolen but partitioned by the UN. Why not picket or post invectives against them…Hmmm??

2- Occupier nation: I just explained Jews are not “occupying” Israel. It is a Jewish state formed not by conquest but by international agreement. The epithet “occupier” seems particularly absurd, even comical, since occupier nations don’t provide electricity, water, WIFI, medical care to all, and jobs to some 20k of those they occupy. And, oh yes, isn’t it common for the occupier to have troops and a puppet govt in the occupied land? FYI, Israel left Gaza in 2005. Hamas was ELECTED by the people. OOPS!

3- Apartheid nation: This one confuses me too. Since I have accused those who post these claims as being ignorant of the truth, I feel I must begin by defining “apartheid “ for you. It is legalized, racial segregation in which 1 group is deprived of political and civil rights. Does that clear up why Israel is NOT an apartheid nation? No? OK, I’ll explain.

Israel’s total population is approximately 10 million. Approximately 2 million are Arabs. They call themselves Israeli-Arabs. They live there because they CHOOSE to. There are no walls, no jails to keep them in. For the most part, they live in peace, worship, educate their children, support their families, vote, work alongside and socialize with Jews as they choose. They are in the military and judiciary. There is even an Arab Supreme Court Justice. I missed the meeting where anyone is deprived of political and civil rights. Got it?

4- Committing genocide: Once again, I think you need a definition: systematic and deliberate destruction of a group of people based on their race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. Am I saying Palestinian civilians aren’t dying? No. of course not. But Hamas is using them as human shields, hiding missiles, drones and tunnel entrances in homes, schools, hospitals. Who bears the responsibility?

Also, those who commit genocide don’t announce pending targets and provide safe zones for civilians. If Israel wanted to, it could send a few F35s and launch a coordinated ground assault. Nothing would be moving by dawn. During war, all wars, civilians die. Fewer civilians/Hamas are dying by percentage in any war in history. No one has ever gone to greater lengths to protect civilians than Israel (John Spencer, West Point grad, military expert). It is still ugly, sad, and a tragedy. But, again, who is at fault?

And, oh yes, where is your outrage over the real genocide being committed in the world? Syria (300k), Sudan (150k), Rwanda (800k), Darfur (400k). Perhaps the best example of genocide was in Poland. In 1935, there were about 350k Jews there. In 1945, there were 2500. Currently, there are about 2 million people in Gaza and 4 million in the W. Bank. If Israel is committing genocide, they’re doing a lousy job.

I did my best to explain and be brief at the same time (not easy for me). These are extremely complex subjects. I know some have already made up their minds, but I hope this helps. I also know that some believe these issues have only 1 side. I disagree with you again. There are 2: it’s good vs evil. I hope I changed some opinions. But if I’ve learned anything as I get older it’s important to know when to stop explaining and let some people just be wrong.
