I am writing this to you and for you. I owe you an apology. I look around me and don’t recognize the country I am leaving you. Information is all around you…easy to access. Unfortunately, it may be filled with bias and mistakes. You may be a victim and not know it. Do not, do not, accept opinions as facts!! It’s hard work to get accurate information. That’s OK. Truth is worth it.
This new mind set, this new direction, this new country both outrages and saddens me. Should I teach you about the country I once knew and what concerns me about the one I am leaving you? Will that make you vulnerable to the same hostility that I have been exposed to from friends and family? I have been the target of hate-filled speeches from people I have known my whole life. Should I tell you about a country that, I believe, has lost its collective mind? You’re about to turn 8. You’re very bright (I know you know it), but still too young to understand. Perhaps one day I will share with you the things that concern and confuse me such as:
Somehow it’s un-American for the census to count how many American citizens are in America
Criminals are caught and immediately released to cause more crime
People who never owned slaves are expected to pay reparations to people who never were slaves
Telling me that taking a knee in front of the flag during the playing of the anthem at a football game is not about the flag or the anthem
Religious services are forbidden but looting is tolerated
Students are taught a “1619” version of American history where we are not exceptional, but racist, and our founders were old, rich, white, slave owners who wrote the Constitution to justify their existence. No opposing version is tolerated
In the face of increasing violence, defunding the police and confiscating legally owned guns seems like a good idea
Joe Biden can blackmail the President of the Ukraine on tape with impunity but Trump inquiring about it is impeachable
Killing murderers is wrong but killing the unborn is right
$5 billion for border security is too expensive but $1.5 trillion for “free” healthcare is not
Open borders was good while those crossing had measles, tuberculosis, hepatitis, aids…were drug, gun, and sex traffickers, but not good if they are covid +
If you cheat to get into college, you go to prison, but if you cheat to get into the country, you get free college
A country where there is Black Awareness month, Black lobby groups, a Black Congressional caucus, Black only bars, clubs, dating sites, Affirmative Action, and elected a Black President is accused of “systemic racism”
You don’t have to prove you’re a citizen to vote
In spite of over 500,000 instances of voter fraud and several indictments in recent elections due to mail-in ballots, we are told not to worry about the integrity of elections when 80 million such ballots are being sent for the next one
Capitalism is the open secret to our success but a change to Socialism, and its consistent failures, seems like a good idea
I cannot caution you enough about who you share these concerns with. They may seem legitimate questions to you. However, by pointing them out, you will be branded racist, evil by those who drank the koolaid. Harry, I apologize for leaving you a country where evil is good, where slavery is freedom, where “1984” is in the 21st century………….. I know me……we’ll talk later.
