This is the most difficult article I have written.
My disappointment in the election is beyond words. In 2008, I was angry. In 2012, I am sad. I am sad for my country whose core is changing. I am sad for my children and grandchild who will never know the America I grew up in- one that encourages personal ambition and responsibility; one that celebrates and admires success; one where you’re on the dole because you have to, not because you’re entitled to. I am sad because I am leaving my heirs a debt they can never repay. Even if they can earn a living, their dollars will have less value. I am sad because the face of America will soon be multi-cultural with rising Islamic influence. I am sad because health care will be one my generation doesn’t recognize. They will ask “how come women can find doctors to perform abortions, that I have to pay for, but I can’t find a doctor to treat me?” They will ask me to tell them stories of when we were the most powerful, feared, and respected nation on earth, not China; stories of when Iran wasn’t nuclear; stories of when Israel was our strongest ally in the middle east and gas was $1/gallon; stories of when “those people” weren’t rioting all the time.
How can I say all this? I’m just being crazy after the election. Really?
Consider this. We are about to change from a capitalist society (with proven success) to a socialist one (with proven failure). Say hello to my little friend…….Greece! The reason for our bad economy is that the “cure” Obama imposed is worse than the recession Bush caused. It’s the only recession that was declared “over” (6/09) without a recovery. The “cure” backfired. Obama borrowed to “stimulate” the economy. But as borrowing increased, so did the debt. The economy became so fragile, everyone began to panic. Investors refused to invest. Borrowers refused to borrow. Lenders refused to lend. Consumers refused to consume. The movement of money stopped. Only safety was important. No matter how much money was pumped into the economy, no one would use it. The estimates are that there is about $2-3 trillion on the sidelines- waiting for certainty in the economy. Businesses, instead of hiring or expanding, investors, instead of letting their money work for them, would rather let their money sit, with no return, than expose it to an about-to-fail economy. So, borrowing created debt. Debt created fear. No one would spend the money Obama borrowed. Until we have fiscal responsibility and not a fiscal cliff, there is no end in sight.
Obama has shown unprecedented stubborness, arrogance, naivete, and fundamental lack of understanding. When faced with the numbers of a non-recovery, he borrowed more, and more! $6 trillion! He promises at least $1 trillion in deficit spending in each of the next 4 years. C’mon man!! Remember Greece? That’s exactly what they did. They made promises they couldn’t afford. They, then, borrowed and borrowed to try to catch up- only getting deeper in debt until no one would lend them money anymore. The inevitable result– unemployment skyrocketed, the currency collapsed, and riots. The rest of Europe is trying to bail them out.
When OUR unemployment skyrockets, when OUR currency collapses, when OUR country can’t pay its debts, who will bail us out?? Coolidge was right. “The business of the country is business.” He meant that business can function only without interference from govt. Government doesn’t create jobs. It creates an environment that allows private business to create jobs. Obama does not, and will never, get that. How about his supporters? There are only 2 possibilities: either they just don’t understand and bought into the smile, or they do understand and agree with them. My opinion: Obama pulled off a scam that makes Bernie Madoff look like an amateur. You see, a con man doesn’t con you. He helps you con yourself. Once a person makes up his mind, he simply ignores any facts that call his decision into question. The majority of Jews, Catholics, and the wealthy all voted for Obama. We have clearly become detached from reality.
So, there it is. I mourn for my country. Nov. 6, 2012, the day the music died in America. With flags flying and banners waving we followed the Pied Piper again. We drank the koolaid………again!
