Facts and Opinions From a US Citizen

Israel… Again

One final word about the Iron Dome. “He funded the Iron Dome. He saved tens of thousands of Israeli lives.” Hmmm, really?

I have been asked dozens of times, given his anti-Israel policies, how can Jews vote for Obama/Biden? My answer, at that time, was an opinion. There are Jews who have forgotten their tradition. Israel is an afterthought. They probably couldn’t find it on a map. I was recently asked given Obama’s record, will Jews vote for Biden? Actually, I don’t know. But I do know I no longer have to offer an opinion. There’s a record. Facts, policies, actions, statements. What follows is NOT MY OPINION. It’s Obama/Biden vs the Trump administrations’ treatment of Israel.

During the campaign for his 2nd term, Obama said “Let me be clear, Israel’s security is sacrosanct. It’s non-negotiable.” Hmmm, really? Let’s see: He showed disrespect for Netanyahu at the White House. He spoke about the Israeli “occupation” at the UN, he told Israel to “Make a deal or suffer the consequences. The US would not be able to defend Israel if it does not endorse the administration’s framework for peace,” such as a return to the ’67 borders. In spite of the Iron Dome, he canceled flights to Ben Gurion Airport. Numerous State Department statements like being “appalled by Israel’s disgraceful shelling.” Stoppage of previously rubber-stamped missile shipments and tightening procedures for future shipments. He risked future Iron Dome aid by tying it to disputed funding for illegal aliens. The 2010-12 & 2015 budget cut funding for Israel’s missile defense. He concluded his disdain by signing the infamous Iran Deal (which guaranteed a nuclear Iran) and allowing UN Resolution 2334 (which labeled Israel an occupier nation) to pass. Each of the last two deserve articles of their own.

Suffice to say here, each, alone, threatens the survival of Israel. One final word about the Iron Dome. “He funded the Iron Dome. He saved tens of thousands of Israeli lives.” Hmmm, really? 1st, the Iron Dome was developed, is owned, and operated by Israel. US (Obama & Congress) funded it in 2011. However, Obama cut defense spending in the following years making continued use impossible. A frustrated Congress introduced the bipartisan Iron Dome Support Act to provide sufficient funds for more Iron Dome systems which Obama had zeroed out.

And what did the Obama/Biden demand from the Palestinians on Israel’s behalf? Peace? Security? Recognition? Nope! Promises! Promises from those who have started 5 wars, violated countless cease fires, whose charter calls for the “obliteration” of Israel, who used hospitals, homes, mosques, and UN schools as rocket arsenals, used civilians as shields and executed them when peacefully protesting. Biden was part of an administration that bowed to Saudi kings, apologized for America while on foreign soil, and supported Egyptian President Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. No threats, no warnings, no sanctions were issued.

We’ve all heard the expression “Words matter.” In this case, deeds matter more. I don’t know how anyone can draw any conclusion other than the Obama/Biden administration’s words about Israel cannot explain their deeds, nor can their deeds explain their words.

Trump has a record also: He eliminated the ISIS Caliphate; withdrew from the Nuclear Iran Deal; imposed crippling sanctions on Iran; officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital; moved the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem; signed the Taylor Act that prevented US funds from being used to pay terrorists to murder Israelis (pay for slay); killed terrorist leaders Soleimani and al-Baghdadi; recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, stopped funding the terror-enabler UNWRA and closed the PLO office in DC; forcefully opposes anti-Israel actions at the UN; calls out members of Congress who support BDS (AOC, Omar, Pressley, and Tlaib); signed an Executive Order that extended Title vi of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to protect kids on college campuses from anti-Semitic attacks; declared settlements in Judea and Samaria legal under international law; and brokered a peace deal between Israel and the UAE.

Two administrations, two records. Just the facts. As much as I would love to comment, opine, that’s not my purpose here. This article is a reminder to those who consider Israel even of some importance and an issue in the upcoming election. Vote your conscience.
